Remember the story about the apostle Peter and the other disciples? They were crossing the Sea of Galilee one night when a furious storm of wind of hurricane proportions arose.

As they struggled against the wind and waves that threatened to sink their boat, they saw in a distance Jesus walking on the water coming towards them.

Peter then asked Jesus if he could join him on the water. Keeping his eyes fixed on Jesus, Peter stepped out of the boat and onto the sea.

Peter walked on the water and came towards Jesus until he saw the precarious winds around him that took his eyes off Jesus, he was terrified and began to sink.

“Lord, save me!” he cried. Jesus reached out, grabbed Peter’s arm and helped him back into the boat.

As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, he was able to stay above the waves, and walk on water which is not a possible thing to do even without the stormy waves. But as long as he kept his eyes on Jesus (the Word), he could do it. But the moment, he took his eyes off Jesus (the Word), he started to get overwhelmed and started to sink.

We live in a world filled with daily storms and bad news around us. Waves of physical and emotional issues, work distress, financial lack, relationship problems, threaten each day to disturb our peace and to pull us under. Yet if we keep our eyes fixed on God’s Word, we can stay above the storms and let the Word save us, let the Word bring life and health to our whole being.
  • Proverbs 4:20-22

    My son, give attention to my words;
    Incline your ear to my sayings.
    Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.
